Note Taking (BROIL)
One of the most important indicators of success in assisting children with ADHD is the ability to overcome the challenges of the disorder by implementing safeguards and externalizing the tasks on hand to a physical form organized over a period of time.
Note talking is a skill that will assist the individual with ADHD tremendously in achievement of goals.
BROIL System is a simple way of remembering what to write down as most important parts of a lesson or lectures.
- B = Anthing that the teacher writes on the Board.
- R = Anything that the teacher Repeats.
- O = Anything that the teacher says will be On the next test
- I = Anything the teacher says is Important
- L = Anything that is in a List.
We can start this training at an early age even though the student might be young and not required to take notes at the current stage. Just repeating the steps and shifting the focus of the Child to be narrowed down to the most important parts of any presentation given by a teacher. This will engrave the fundamentals of this system and trains the Child to identify the bullets and important parts of the lesson, when the time comes for taking notes then the child has a system that has been practiced and is almost second nature.
